We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist (General Adult) to join a multidisciplinary team, based in an incredible part of Western Australia –where you can enjoy a sensational way of life and get the work/life balance you have always dreamed of whilst earning a first class public health salary.

 

This is a genuinely unique opportunity for an experienced Psychiatrist to be based in a regional setting just one hour’s flight from Perth and earn excellent money in a public health context.

As an experienced Psychiatrist, you will be expected to undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatments and support the case management of clients. You will have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team environment and will possess a commitment to continual professional development. You will be motivated and enjoy working with a regional context, delivering first class care within this team environment and when working autonomously. 

 

The Health Campus has been undergoing significant development which, along with general improvements, will eventually feature an acute inpatient unit. There are plans to grow the service further and to expand the team, offering the opportunity to help develop innovative new in and outpatient models of care, including Telehealth. The town is also home to the Western Australian Centre for Rural Health and WA Rural Clinical School, so there are opportunities to also be involved in medical education and teaching.

 

With some of the most beautiful beaches in WA within your reach, there is no shortage of water sports and outdoor recreational activities to keep you entertained. The Midwest health region of Western Australia covers more than 470,000 square kilometres, nearly one fifth of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. It has a regional population of approx. 70,000, The major town there has a population of approx. 40,000.

 

It has a laidback vibe and reflects its historical pioneering influences and majestic natural landscape, and beautiful wildflowers.

There are so many things to see and do if you love the great outdoors, from world-class windsurfing spots where dolphins, whales and sea lions frolic in the waters. Or take a walk along the beach, take the boat, or grab a coffee or meal at one of the many cafes. If you like the idea of exploring further inland, Geraldton is also close to Kalbarri National Park, Monkey Mia, as well as the West Australian outback.

The local airport has excellent flight connections to Perth (1 hr), so international connections are easy as Perth has direct flights to London, Singapore, Jakarta etc.

If you do not hold FRANZCP, to be assessed favourably by the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP) you will have

  • Completed your specialist training in a comparable country of training - Ireland, New Zealand, UK, Canada, USA or South Africa.
  • Have at least 3years experience at consultant level. 
  • Have completed 6 months of child and adolescent training in your basic or advanced training.
