We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Physician in Rheumatology & General Medicine to work in Dumfries and Galloway.

The successful candidate will work primarily at the recently opened state of the art hospital in Dumfries and Galloway. You will join a growing team working closely with the Consultants and Associate Specialists delivering high quality rheumatology services to the people of the region and contributing to the Acute/General Medicine team (on call rota frequency of 1 in 12). The post is for 40 hours a week and you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise nursing and junior medical staff as well as medical students from the Scottish Universities.

The Rheumatology team provide a high quality, comprehensive range of services primarily delivered in the outpatient setting, as well as ambulatory/day case treatment through a dedicated unit and inpatient care accommodation within the medical unit. Clinics are run on a hub and spoke model on the Dumfries and Stranraer sites.

General Medicine has recently moved to the new hospital which has allowed for reconfiguration of ‘front door services’ with an emphasis on early senior review and decision making. Acute medical patients are now assessed in the Combined Assessment Unity (CAU), which is co-located with the Emergency Treatment Centre. During the working week this is supervised by a dedicated team of Acute Physicians, working doctors in training and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The Successful candidate will form part of the team of physicians supervising medical admissions out of hours and during the weekends on a rostered basis.

The location is outstandingly beautiful, with the landscape as a key feature in the design of the new hospital building. Dumfries is a great place to relocate to, it is well located for access to Scottish cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh, but also just a short drive from Carlisle in the north of England. The housing costs remain affordable, with excellent schools and low crime rates.

Applicants should be on or eligible for GMC registration. The salary follows NHS pay scales and is from £80,653 to £107,170 dependent on experience. If you are interested in learning more about this job, please contact Allison on 0131 240 5287 or email allison@headmedial.com.
