Be part of a forward-thinking team delivering high-quality palliative care across Central Queensland. This is a unique opportunity to take on a senior leadership role while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of living in one of Australia’s most welcoming and well-connected regional centres.

  • Lead and develop specialist palliative care services across a major regional health network
  • Enjoy excellent work-life balance with generous leave entitlements, CME allowance, and flexible working options
  • Live in a welcoming community with affordable housing and easy access to the coast and national parks
  • Competitive salary package up to AUD $530k p.a. (commensurate with experience)

The Hospital

Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed referral hospital offering a full suite of specialist services and is the largest in Central Queensland. With a strong focus on teaching, innovation, and clinical governance, it supports a broad catchment and serves as a key training site for medical students and registrars.

The Role

As a Consultant in Palliative Medicine, you will provide expert inpatient, outpatient, and community-based care across Central Queensland. You will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, helping shape service delivery while supporting and mentoring junior clinicians and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Outreach and telehealth support to other CQ facilities will also be part of the scope.

 Requirements

You must be eligible for specialist registration with AHPRA and hold:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in General and/or Palliative Medicine, OR
  • Equivalent overseas specialist qualifications (e.g. CCT (UK), CSCST (Ireland), ABIM Board Certification (USA), RCPSC (Canada), or Vocational Registration in NZ)

The Location

Rockhampton offers an ideal mix of urban amenities and natural beauty - think riverside cafes, weekend markets, and quick getaways to the Great Barrier Reef, Capricorn Coast, or nearby national parks. With excellent schools, a thriving arts and sporting culture, and short commutes, it’s a region that offers both professional challenge and lifestyle appeal.

What Head Medical can do for you

Arranging a position overseas is very exciting, but we understand that it can also be daunting and time consuming. We’re the UK’s specialist in international medical recruitment and we’ve helped many Doctors relocate since we first started out in 2008 (you can read what people have said about working with us on our testimonials page). We know it’s important to balance career opportunities with lifestyle and we’ll talk through your plans and will get to know you to make sure we find the right role in the right location.  Once we have secured a job for you, we’ll manage the Medical Registration and Visa application process and support you (and your family) with the relocation itself.
