Consultant Paediatrics required for this regional Victorian city.

Situated on the border of New South Wales and on the banks of the Murray River, this historic city is close to wineries and local produce markets.

The Role and Hospital
The Paediatric Unit’s primary function is the provision of care for patients and families at a level of skill and autonomy consistent with training in Paediatrics. The Unit will:

  • Provide high quality comprehensive medical care to neonates and paediatric inpatients, including those with complex problems,
  • Provide appropriate advice and support to GP’s doctors in ED and other health professionals regarding paediatric patients, supervised by the Paediatricians,
  • Be actively involved in the education and training of junior staff and other health professionals regarding paediatric issues,
  • Conduct clinics in the Specialist Clinic for patients including general paediatric, endocrine disorders and behavioural disorders.

This hospital provides services to paediatric patients in our paediatric unit and Special Care Nursery. There are 16 dedicated beds – ten in the paediatric ward and six in the Special Care Nursery.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.

The Location
This north-west Victoria regional city is set on the banks of the magnificent Murray River and has a population of around 80,000.  Within an hour flying time to Melbourne and Adelaide, it has the perfect Mediterranean climate, with a high number of warm sunny days perfect for visiting the many cafes and restaurants or relaxing by the Murray River.  There are great shopping precincts and markets, excellent sporting and cultural facilities, hosts numerous festivals and has many high performing public and private schools

This location is also known as the centre of Victoria's Food Bowl and is a major producer of citrus fruits (especially oranges), and wine. It is also notable for its grape production, supplying 80% of Victoria's grapes. Many wineries also source grapes from here.
