The Role and Hospital
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist – Intensivist for the North West Regional Hospital, Tasmania.

The North West Regional Hospital, Burnie is the principal referral centre for the North West Tasmanian community and provides general medicine, surgical (including orthopaedic), intensive care, cancer services, paediatric services, outpatient clinics and specialist services.

The general case mix of patients in the ICU may include: trauma patients, sepsis and multi system failure, post-operative complications, unstable angina/AMI, cardiac failure / arrythmias and respiratory failure.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and are driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe.  The population of the area is approximately 116,000 within a total Tasmanian population of around 500,000. The Tasmanian Health Service – North West provides both acute and sub-acute services.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.

The Location

Burnie has an art deco flavour, with fine architectural examples that you can explore on foot.
