The Role
This is your opportunity to join this emerging tertiary health service undergoing expansion in the wonderful geographical environs of the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service are seeking an exceptional Consultant Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Psychiatrist to:
- undertake clinical duties that may include inpatient services, outpatient services, procedural work, multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical correspondence, medical report writing, and on-call duties.
- build compassionate, therapeutic relationships with patients and their families
- work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and foster strong professional relationships
- promote open communication, manage differences, and support conflict resolution
- ensure safe, timely clinical handover and maintain high-quality clinical documentation
- mentor and supervise junior staff and contribute to workforce development
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. The standard Specialist Pathway or the Accelerated Pathway are still available to those who aren’t eligible for the Expedited specialist pathway.

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) has embarked on a significant transformation journey with the opening of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) with further planned growth.
Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) is a tertiary, teaching hospital servicing all parts of the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions. SCUH has expanded over the years to 728 beds. Services and capacity at SCUH will continue to develop over the coming years.
