Job title: Consultant in Non-Interventional Cardiology, Permanent, Location: Mackay, Queensland

The cardiac department is currently staffed with FTE 5.0 Cardiologists (4 x Interventional & 1 x non-Interventional), 6 Principal House Officers/Registrars (including 2 x Advanced Trainee’s), 4 Junior /Senior House Officers and 3 interns and provides cardiology services to a local population of 180,000.
The department is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for cardiology advanced training status. A wide range of cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are provided including Echo, TOE with 3D capacity, stress echo, Dobutamine, CTCA, Cardiac MRI, coronary intervention and pacing device implantation.
Working as a Consultant in Non-Interventional Cardiology you'll be required to carry out the following tasks.
Assist the Clinical Director in the following:
- Provision of high-quality clinical services as part of the Unit/Department.
- Education of Medical Staff and Students, Allied Health, interested Community Groups and Nursing Staff.
- Active participation in patient safety, audit, research and service planning activities.
- Professional responsibility for Junior and Senior Medical Officers.

- The Cardiac Catheterisation Suite is equipped with modern facility with IVUS, OCT and FFR.
- 24/7 Primary PCI is to be commenced in early 2020.
- Cardiac Investigations Unit - equipped with 3 echo machines with 3D imaging capability, including transoesophageal echocardiography and stress echo.
- Other services offered included Holter, Ambulatory BP monitoring, Stress testing and Event Recorders.
- Cardiac surgical input is from The Townsville Hospital with weekly heart team conference.
- Onsite CTCA and cardiac MRI services
- 8 beds dedicated CCU • Heart Failure/Titration Service.
- Weekly video-conference link to TPCH education programs such as ECG morning run and Echo forum.
- Short stay unit for low-risk chest pain admission.

Your area of work is a 236 bed regional hospital that services 10 rural hospitals and multi-purpose health facilities across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region. A health board that is embarking on an exciting period of growth with a $250m redevelopment of the base hospital to provide an additional 112 inpatient beds and an expansion of outpatient and support services. Significant upgrades are also underway at rural hospitals in Bowen, Moranbah, Proserpine and Clermont. Clinicians enjoy a challenging and rewarding clinical casemix that includes busy inpatient and outpatient general medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology and mental health services. These core inpatient services are well integrated with active emergency medicine, anaesthetic and intensive care departments and supported by a wide range of allied health services.
Specialty services are provided by tertiary hospitals in Townsville and Brisbane, including a strong undergraduate teaching affiliation with James Cook University

Requirements to apply:
- Mandatory possession of a qualification from a recognised tertiary institution and experience appropriate for current registration as a Specialist in Cardiology with the Medical Board of Australia or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
