Opportunity:

Working as a Consultant in Medical Oncology within the HSE (Ireland's public health system) you'll provide high-quality care to patients in the Medical Oncology department at this leading teaching hospital in Cork.

Looking for candidates with a special interest in clinical cancer genetics.

  • The post-holder will participate in the medical oncology on-call rota with the existing Medical Oncologists.
  • The appointment will assist the current consultant medical oncologists in providing appropriate oncology care to cancer patients in the catchment area.
  • Your goal is to provide the best possible outcomes for your cancer patients, whether that’s a cure or palliative care. Whatever the case, you’ll provide treatment and counselling to your patients and their families. 
  • Clinical research is an important part of your role and clinical care, clinical trials, laboratory and translational cancer research will be part of your training.  

Your work will include: 

  • Diagnosing cancers 
  • Discussing treatment options with patients 
  • Arranging and supervising drug treatment and therapies including the management of any complications 
  • Supporting patients and overseeing their care, including after-treatment care 

Essential Criteria

  • Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration within the specialty of Medical Oncology
  • 6+ years plus relevant experience post-graduation
  • Must be currently working at Consultant or Specialist level and considerable experience at this level.
  • Previous research in clinical specialties
  • Excellent English and communication skills

Compensation and Benefits

  • Basic pay of €217,325- €261,051 on a six-point scale
  • Up to €20,000 on call
  • 37-hour week
  • Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable
  • Highly flexible contract that enables consultants opt for a variety of different work patterns
  • Maximum tax rate of 40% in Ireland

Location in Detail: Cork
