Opportunity:
Are you a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry (Inpatient) seeking a new challenge where you can input new ideas, whilist shaping the direction of your service & career development?
Head Medical are delighted to share we are recruiting on behalf of leading NHS Trust in the South West of England who seeking an experienced candidate within Adult Psychiatry (Inpatients).
You'll work on-site at a 15 bedded ward that admits adults of working age. Deliver direct interventions including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental and physical health needs of the inpatients and be the responsible Clinician for Inpatients detained under the Mental Health Act.
Furthermore, you'll:
- Provide senior medical input and leadership to inpatient ward
- Provide Clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary ward team
- Supervise junior medical staff
- Contribute to the strategic development of Adult Mental Health inpatient services
This Consultant post does not include any community responsibilities. There are 3.5 WTE consultants in the Community Mental Health Service and 1.0 WTE in Home Treatment team (HTT). Community teams including the Home Treatment Team are located on site.
The postholder will have 1.5 SPA plus up to 1.0 additional SPA for undertaking a specific role (e.g. medical appraisal, governance group, service development, research, academic and others) in line with the applicant’s interests and career aspirations and Trust objectives.
A Trust which is very supportive of Continuing Professional Development and will expect the post-holder to take part in CPD relevant to their specialty, to be registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and to maintain good standing for CPD with the College.

Essential criteria
- GMC Registered
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Mental Health Act Approved Clinician (or plans to obtain approval within 4 months of appointment)
