Emergency Medicine Consultant required for North East Scotland


An exciting opportunity has become available for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join a friendly and enthusiastic department with great facilities located in North East Scotland.

The hospital has 35 Consultants working in the acute sector and provides a Consultant based service with an atmosphere of friendly co-operation and good rapport with the local General Practitioners.

The Emergency Department sees approximately 25,000 patients a year and it includes a great mix of paediatrics, trauma and medical cases. Within one department they practice the full range of Emergency Medicine from cradle to grave. The hospital itself has been redeveloped with modern equipment and user-friendly facilities throughout and there is a library and a Postgraduate Medical Centre with 24/7 access and video conferencing facilities.

The hospital is in a beautiful area and is five miles from the coastal town of Lossiemouth and near Moray which boasts the only Malt Whisky Trail in the world. The area has a good choice of schools that hold a high standard in education and a wide choice of affordable housing in rural or coastal areas all within easy distance to the hospital.

The successful Doctor will ideally fill a full-time position with an on-call commitment of 1 in 5 nights and 1 in 6 weekends, however the frequency of being called is low. Any Doctor interested in part time will be considered. You will be expected to play a role in the activities of the department and the hospital, including teaching, audit, quality improvement, meetings and general administration. You will have the opportunity to develop any special interests.

To be eligible for this job you must have the following:

  • MB ChB (or equivalent)
  • FRCEM (or equivalent)
  • CCT or CESR in Emergency medicine (or equivalent), or expected within 6 months
  • GMC Specialist registration with a current licence to Practice (or expected within 6 months)
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Emergency Medicine in a recognised training post

Salary will follow NHS pay scales and be from £78,304 up to £105,570 dependent on experience for a full-time position. If it was part time this would be pro rata.
