The Role
We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic, team orientated Anaesthetist with the ability and drive to contribute to the service development. Interests in research and education would be desirable.

This role allows you to develop your areas of interest within anaesthesia, including ICU, perioperative medicine, pain management, and quality improvement.

You will join a team of Anaesthetists who provide elective and emergency services for a variety of specialties including; general surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ENT, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABA certified) or New Zealand.

The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Anaesthetics. The accepted qualifications are:

  • Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (FCAI), together with a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) from Ireland, or
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the United Kingdom.

The Hospital.
This is a growing health care facility with a new redevelopment which will give the Warrnambool and surrounding community access to world-class healthcare facilities close to home. A new multi-level building will deliver a bigger emergency department, more operating theatres, an extra 22 inpatient beds and upgraded dialysis. With more families choosing to make south-west Victoria home, a new paediatric unit will also provide specialised care to children and young people.

The largest employer in the region employing more than 1350 employees, it is the major specialist referral centre for the Barwon South West sub-region, and provides a comprehensive range of acute, sub-acute, specialist, community, mental health and aged services.

Situated on the Great Ocean Road, Warrnambool is surrounded by lush rural landscapes and breath-taking ocean views.
