About the role
We’re looking for Consultant Anaesthetists with interest in Intensive Care Medicine to join our team.
We provide critical care services to around 700+ patients 60% of which are acute medical admissions. We also provide tertiary level care for burns, plastics and maxillofacial surgery as well as general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, gynaecology, ENT and ophthalmic surgery. We are in the process of expanding our critical care services with a fully staffed 8 bedded intensive care unit and a 24/7 patient at risk service complemented by a full roster of junior doctors. Early 2023, we will be able to offer acute haemofiltration (dialysis) service for our critically ill patients and we aim to be recognised by the College of Intensive care medicine as a Level 2 intensive care unit.
To achieve this transformational change, the Hospital is looking for Senior Medical Officers/Consultants with experience and interest in Intensive Care. You will join a team of enthusiastic colleges and will participate in the provision of critical care service within the hospital.
Clinical sessions will include day sessions in both intensive care unit and anaesthesia. You will also provide afterhours cover (on call) to patients needing critical care services. Please note that on calls will be in ICU only.
About our team
The Hospital is a busy 270-bed facility providing secondary services for Lower and Upper Hutt cities. and we are the tertiary centre for regional plastics, oral maxillofacial, burns and rheumatology services. We have a suite of 8 operating rooms and 8-bed ICU/HDU. We are in close proximity to the Capital Wellington city with a 15 mins drive. There are 8000+ operative procedures per year in General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Gynaecology, Dental, Plastics, reconstruction and OMF, and we have 1,800 deliveries annually in the Obstetric Unit.
About you
- Must be vocationally registered in anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- FANZCA or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- For overseas candidates, you must meet the New Zealand Immigration Service requirements
- Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
- Relevant experience and training
