The Hospital

Hervey Bay Hospital is the acute facility on the Fraser Coast and works in close partnership with Maryborough Hospital to deliver high quality health care to the community.

Hervey Bay Hospital has built a reputation for excellence especially in professional education and attracts medical and nursing programs in conjunction with the University of Queensland (UQ), University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Central Queensland University (CQU) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

A $40 million upgrade has been announced by the State Government for the Hervey Bay hospital's emergency department, so that by mid 2018, the base hospital's emergency service will almost double in bed capacity from 19 to 37 plus 2 extra to be added to the eight bed ICU ward.

The Health Service covers the coastal stretch from Agnes Waters in the north to Maryborough and Hervey Bay in the South and serves a population of approximately 184,000 residents.

The Area

The Fraser Coast is one of the most rapidly growing regional centres in Queensland with Hervey Bay listed as one of Queensland’s best natural holiday destinations. Situated only 3 hours drive north of Brisbane, with direct flights daily to Brisbane & Sydney, the region is very accessible, enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate as well as being the renowned whale watching capital of Australia.

The World Heritage Listed Fraser Island and Lady Elliot Island are just a short distance away plus there is the opportunity to view humpback whales from July-November.  During their annual migration, Humpback whales take time out in the protected waters of Hervey Bay. The whales perform a variety of behaviours providing a spectacular display for visitors and locals.

A range of cosmopolitan and alfresco cafes, shops, parklands, picnic areas, playgrounds along the Esplanade and a vibrant marina there is plenty to see and do.

The Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service is well known for its relaxed lifestyle, natural beauty and local attractions. Bundaberg is located at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef with access to coral islands and scuba diving. Possibly the most famous beach in Bundaberg is Mon Repos. Located 15 kms east of Bundaberg, Mon Repos is known for having the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and is considered one of the two largest loggerhead turtle rookeries in the South Pacific Ocean.

For a taste of the Australian bush, Cania Gorge, located in the hinterland west of Monto, is popular for bushwalks and abseiling.

What Head Medical can do for you
Arranging a position overseas is very exciting, but we understand that it can also be daunting and time consuming. We’re the UK's specialist in international medical recruitment and we‘ve helped many Doctors relocate since we first started out in 2008 (you can read what people have said about working with us on our testimonials page). We know it’s important to balance career opportunities with lifestyle and we’ll talk through your plans and will get to know you to make sure we find the right role in the right location.

Once we have secured a job for you, we’ll manage the Medical Registration and Visa application process, and support you (and your family) with the relocation itself
