The Role
As part of a multidisciplinary mental health team, the Consultant Adult Community Psychiatrist will provide the following:
- Assessment and treatment of mental health clients at various sites across the region including inpatient settings, community clinics and clients’ homes.
- Participation in the after hours on call roster.
- Contribution to the effective functioning of the multidisciplinary mental health team through leadership and participation in clinical reviews and providing consultant oversight to other team members across the treatment settings.
- Promote and maintain close links with other specialists, general practitioners and service providers to ensure continuity of patient care and the ongoing development of the mental health sector.
- Participation in teaching and supervision of Registrars/Career Medical Officers, Resident Medical Officers and medical students as required and the in-service training of other staff.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. The standard Specialist Pathway or the Accelerated Pathway are still available to those who aren’t eligible for the Expedited specialist pathway.
