The Role
The Alcohol and Drug Services (ADS) Team provides a range of treatments for people with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues. ADS specialises in providing information and advice, referral, assessment, and treatment to ACT residents who think they or a family member may have an alcohol and/or other drug issue.
You will have experience in Addiction Psychiatry and or Addiction Medicine and high-level skills relevant to inpatient, consultation liaison and outpatient services. You will also be expected to participate in the mandatory administrative, governance and training requirements of medical officers within the Division. Emphasis on recovery focus and person-centred care are essential.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of either the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (FAChAM) from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. The standard Specialist Pathway or the Accelerated Pathway are still available to those who aren’t eligible for the Expedited specialist pathway.

The Location
Canberra is so much more than the national capital. With nature on the doorstep, a rich arts and culture scene and world-class dining and entertainment, it is one of Australia's best-kept secrets.
This is one of the safest cities in the world and in 2014 the OECD ranked Canberra as the most liveable city in the world.
Restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries and breweries serve produce from Canberra and the region. The food and wine industries compete with the best in the world.
Just a short drive from stunning coastlines, world-class ski-fields and big-city bustle when an escape is needed. There’s even a wildlife lodge at the National Zoo and Aquarium where you can stay overnight with the animals right outside your room.
