An exciting opportunity has become available to work as an Acute Medicine Consultant in the beautiful location of Dumfries and Galloway. This impressive post will provide someone with the opportunity to work in the Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) at the new hospital. The hospital is a 347-bed district general in the University town of Dumfries and serves a population of 148,000.
The successful candidate will work closely with the three existing Acute Medicine Consultants and provide senior presence, clinical leadership and services in Acute/General Medicine. You will also have the opportunity to provide teaching, educational programmes and supervision of nursing staff, junior medical staff and medical students. Taking part in improving clinical effectiveness and maximising the use of the hospital’s facilities will be an important part of the job. If successful you will provide a key leadership role for the clinical services represented within the CAU by working with Lead Nurses and AHPs to develop protocols and care pathways.
The location is outstandingly beautiful, with the landscape as a key feature in the design of the new hospital building. Dumfries is a great place to relocate to, it is well located for access to Scottish cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh, but also just a short drive from Carlisle in the north of England. The housing costs remain affordable, with excellent schools and low crime rates.
The job, based on full time, will contain 9+1 programmed activities, including one allocated to supporting professional activities with a 1:12 on call rota. Applicants are required to be on the GMC register with a licence to practice and on the specialist register. The salary will follow NHS pay scales.
