The Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE) has been the initial step of the process for overseas trained doctors to apply for jobs and licensing throughout Canada.
UK trained MRCGP General Practitioners have been benefiting from a streamlined licensing process when applying to work in Canada.
Being exempt from the MCCEE qualifying exam has meant that in most provinces GPs qualified in the UK have been able to by-pass this initial testing stage, being able to secure an employment contract and obtaining licensure with the relevant provincial college, with the exams being completed within a period of time after starting work in Canada.
That is set to change soon……… The MCCEE is being phased out altogether by the end of 2018. It will likely mean that all overseas trained doctors (General Practitioners and Specialists) will be required to sit the MCCQE Part 1 written exam, prior to applying for licensing. This has been confirmed for British Columbia although some provinces have yet to decide on the GP process.
