I look after locum GPs in Australia – roles that can last from one week up to 12 months. The majority of my doctors are based in Australia and already registered, however, I do have UK doctors who are looking to live and work in Australia for between 6–12 months. Any doctors that require assistance with work visas and/or medical registration enjoy full support from the Registration Team at Head Medical.
As our offices are on the other side of the world (Edinburgh) I arrive in the office at around 7 am, which is 4 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) and 2 pm Western Australia (WA). This gives me time to contact clients on local time and follow up on calls, etc. My afternoon typically consists of catching up on e-mails and resumes while my clients are asleep.
I am very lucky when it comes to the client side of things. I spent over 7 years in Australia so I know what a great country it is to live and work in! I love being able to match doctors well with particular practices. It’s always rewarding when the client is happy with the doctor you have provided. Even though the placements are short term, they usually become regular locums for the clients.
The locum Australia desk is very busy with a number of jobs coming in each week. The types of locum work can be so different, from a 1–2 week locum in Wollongong to a 3-month locum in Perth. This gives so much choice and variation for the doctor and that’s what I love about my job! If you are a GP or Consultant looking to work in Australia then give me a call on 0131 240 5267 or e-mail jennifer@headmedical.com.
