BREAKING NEWS - Australian Government shelves plans to change Medicare rebate

Federal Health Minister, the Hon Sussan Ley announced the Australian government will not proceed with the planned changes to Medicare Level A and Level B rebates that were due to come into effect Monday 19 January 2015.

The $20 cut was due to take effect from next Monday, and would have saved the Government $1.3 billion over the next four years.

There were a number of concerns from GPs working in Australia and their patients that healthcare would be affected and those on lower incomes would not be able to receive the treatment they require.

The news means that GPs earnings will not be affected in the way that was feared.
