Medical Registration process for Australia to be streamlined from 1 July 2014

The Medical Board of Australia will streamline the medical registration process for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) wishing to work in Australia.

The Australian Medical Council (AMC) have restructured their involvement in the IMG medical registration process to focus solely on the verification of an IMG’s qualifications, through the ECFMG International Credentials Services (EICS).

IMG’s will now apply directly to the relevant specialist medical college or Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) whilst the AMC verify their qualifications, allowing applications to be processed concurrently.

Our dedicated Registrations Team expect to see a reduction of 4-6 weeks from previous timescales for IMG’s to complete the medical registration process, however, the impact will only become fully apparent once the changes take effect on 1 July 2014.
