As Senior Consultant with a focus on Australia and New Zealand, I get to spend all day speaking with Doctors about the fantastic lifestyle and career opportunities available down under, which I absolutely love. I am originally from the beautiful coastal town of Mount Maunganui, in the Bay of Plenty (NZ), and although I have been in the UK since 1997, I always manage to pop back home every so often for the sunshine, the white sandy beach, quality family time and the best “flat white” coffees in the world.
I’ve been working with Doctors at every level ever since I left University, from working in a large New Zealand Health Authority in Auckland to working as an HR Manager in the NHS in Scotland, recruiting specialist trainees pre and post-MMC, liaising with Deaneries throughout the UK. This has provided invaluable insight into the public health sectors in both hemispheres and the impact of change in this current economic climate. Over the years I have developed a wide and far reaching Aussie/Kiwi network. I think this, combined with my extensive medical recruitment experience and familiarity with the geography and lifestyle benefits that both Australia and New Zealand offer, ensures candidates will feel they are in safe hands when making some of their most important career decisions.
Background: A New Zealander with Shetland connections. Have travelled around the world, spending a lot of time in New Zealand, Australia and USA, as well as few other far flung places. HR Manager in the NHS in Scotland in a past life, joined Head Medical in 2011. Have been specifically doing medical recruitment since 2002.
Loves: My rescue cats, the smell of the ocean, jandals, history documentaries, mafia movies, dining al fresco, Grand Designs: Australia (TV show)
Dream Destination: Venice, Sicily, Hawaii, Byron Bay (Australia), Mount Maunganui (New Zealand)
Inspired by: My Mum who has MS and amazes me all the time. Last year, she went surfing.
Claim to Fame: My husband and I wrote and produced a comedy play (sitcom) called “Sweet As” about myself and my Aussie and Kiwi backpacker posse living in Edinburgh. We had sold out shows in London, it was almost picked up by British TV. Almost. It was weird meeting the actor who played me.
Special Talent: Internet shopping (if only it were an Olympic sport)
Best New Zealand Memories: Staying on Waiheke Island (a must do if visiting Auckland!); a leisurely stroll around the base of Mount Maunganui. I’ve walked it so many times, with different family and friends, it's just a nice thing to do on a sunny afternoon.
Best Australian Memories: Shopping in Melbourne, Visiting Kangaroo Island in South Australia – getting right up close to a large seal colony, watching the penguins emerging from the water at twilight to their nests, catching yabbis for lunch.
