An exciting opportunity exists for an Intensivist or Emergency Physician with the ability to work across ICU, ED or Medical Retrieval services.

Attractive remuneration package. Base salary of up to AUD$289,000 (dependent upon experience).

The Role and Hospital

We are seeking an Intensivist or Emergency Physician with the ability to work across ICU, ED or Medical Retrieval services.

The Hospital is the major Rural Referral Hospital for the north west of NSW. It had a AU$260 million acute service redevelopment completed in 2015, delivering a brand new Intensive Care Unit, increasing from 11 to 16 ICU/HDU beds. The hospital is equipped with 348 treatment spaces.

The Intensive Care Unit receives a mix of patients admitted to the unit which includes trauma victims, envenomation, post-operative management of complex surgical patients, respiratory support, sepsis, AKI, and paediatrics (short term ventilation). This position is suitable for both Intensivists and Emergency Physicians with experience in Critical Care with the ability to work across the ICU, ED or Medical Retrieval service.

The Location

Tamworth is a modern, progressive and prosperous city set in a huge area of rolling plains surrounded by beautiful scenic mountains.  It is the largest inland NSW city west of the Great Dividing Range, located 400km from Sydney and 600km from Brisbane on the inland corridor route.

There are excellent educational options, with 39 schools, including 10 high schools, while at tertiary level there is the University of New England Access Centre, TAFE New England - Tamworth campus and the University of Newcastle health campus.

Located about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, providing ease of access with 6 daily flights, you’re not too far from the big city metropoles, but you and your family will have daily access to 5 large shopping centres, several smaller centres, galleries, museums, entertainment centres, while still enjoying the benefits of country life.

With almost 50 licensed hotels/clubs, 44 restaurants and 23 cafes, Tamworth is home to a diversity of fresh, organic and locally grown produce. A foodie’s paradise, you can indulge in options from Asian Fusion to water buffalo steaks while enjoying award winning local wines from boutique vineyards.  They also have an annual Taste Tamworth Festival as well as their world famous Country Music Festival.

It is excellent for sport with 2 golf clubs, a state-of-the-art Indoor Sports Centre and over 180 recreational and sporting clubs.

Requirements

Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or Australian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
