Head Medical are delighted to be recruiting for an ST3+ in Paediatric Oncology/Haematology to work in Alder Hey Hospital on a 12 month fixed term contract.
As a leader in child healthcare and research, Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust provides care for more than 275,000 children and young people each year, making Alder Hey one of the biggest and busiest children’s hospitals in Europe.
This post will provide services for children and young people within the haematology-oncology unit. The successful applicant will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team including eight Consultant Paediatric Oncologists and Haematologists covering the regional tertiary service. The primary duty will be to take part in the management and day to day running of the department with the successful candidate working in conjunction with Consultants, trainee doctors, advanced nurse practitioners and other members of the team.
The Unit is one of 19 UK Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Groups – affiliated Principal Treatment Centre providing services for children and young people up to the age of 19 with cancer across the Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network and North Wales. The Department is housed in a purpose built self-contained state-of-the-art unit at the centre of the new Children’s Hospital in the Park. The Unit works closely with shared care centres throughout the network to provide seamless care.
The Oncology/Haematology Unit has a strong reputation with regard to the excellence of care based around a highly experienced and dedicated multi-disciplinary team working in first class facilities. The Unit is a major contributor to national and international clinical trials and is one of ten UK Centres accredited as a Paediatric Experimental Cancer Medicines Centre. The Department has a thriving in house clinical research programme with a number of translational research projects in collaboration with the University of Liverpool. The Unit has an established JACIE and HTA accredited Autologous Stem Cell Transplant Programme.
This job is for a provisional 10 PA rota with no on-call commitment or involvement with the on-call rota required. Exact days of clinic and extended hours of work may vary and will be finalised if successful.
To be considered for this unique opportunity you:
- Must hold registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be within 6 months of achieving this at time of interview.
- Hold Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health part one.
- Have a current ALS or EPLS certificate.
- Have a minimum of 4 years (or equivalent) in post graduate training, 2 of which must have been in paediatrics.
- Hold the competence in paediatric and oncology/haematology procedures.
This job is subject to a police check and a current ALS or EPLS certificate is needed. Salary will follow NHS pay scales and be from £50,017 up to £53,077 per year depending on experience.
