We have rotational opportunities for PGY3 doctors commencing in December /January 2022. Invercargill is located at the heart of New Zealand’s South Island and is the gateway to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure and extreme sports capital!

The Hospital

Southland Hospital is a state of the art 181 bed teaching hospital.   It is the regional referral and teaching and trauma centre for a population of 105,000 and a rural catchment area that stretches from Stewart Island to Te Anau and Queenstown. The Emergency Department has approximately 36,000 presentations per annum, with a modern open plan design that supports 21 beds (which includes 6 observations beds). The General surgery department sees a wide diversity of surgical conditions and provides a range of surgery including: breast and endocrine; upper and lower gastrointestinal; hepatobiliary and pancreatic; vascular; trauma; and urology.  There are approximately 1400 births per year at Southland Hospital and a further 200 in the rural areas. The department consists of a 14 room maternity unit with 4 birthing rooms, a level two 5 cot neonatal unit and a dedicated Women's Health Unit .
