We are seeking a Physician – Acute and Internal Medicine to be based on the stunning East coast of New Zealand's North Island. As part of an expansion in the department, we are looking for an individual with skills in acute medicine to join the team in the acute medical assessment unit.

The role and hospital

Hawke's Bay has a diverse population of 162,000 people in both urban and remote rural areas. Acute medicine is provided at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Hastings which has a 400 bed capacity - one of the largest provincial hospitals in New Zealand.

The general medicine department looks after more than 8000 admissions per year, across 3 medical wards and a 20 bed acute assessment unit. The group has a strong collegial relationship and comprises 25 physicians across a number of specialties.

The applicant will have a broad range of skills in acute/general medicine and be able to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

The role is set at 1.0 FTE, but applications for a part time role will be considered. A subspecialty interest can be accommodated, with the expectation that this would be secondary to the acute medical role.

Candidates with an interest in endocrinology, respiratory, rheumatology, infectious diseases or geriatric medicine would be preferred but any speciality could potentially be accommodated.
