Orthopaedic Surgeon - St Helena Island, South Atlantic
6-month contract – flight departs UK 21st June (fixed date)
Salary plus generous allowances to cover cost of relocation and accommodation etc.
A 6-month contract is now available for two experienced Orthopaedic Surgeons to work on the outstandingly beautiful island of St Helena, located in the South Atlantic Ocean. Please be aware that you must be available to fly 21st June from London.
Return travel costs will be covered and the post is offered on an unaccompanied basis. Family can arrange to travel also at your own cost.
St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK, a sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500. The 30-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
Under the supervision of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO), the Orthopaedic Surgeon will work with another Orthopaedic Surgeon and will have joint responsibility for all orthopaedic cases. This will include, but not be limited to, delivery of:
- Appropriate management of all orthopaedic cases (surgical and non-surgical)
- Approximately one theatre list per week
- Appropriate pre- and post-operative care
- Cover for orthopaedic emergencies (this will be shared with another Orthopaedic Surgeon on a rota basis)
UK General Medical Council registration is required; however an equivalent registration may be considered. Ideally you will be experienced at Consultant level, but a skilled Senior Registrar may also be considered.
