We are seeking a General Ophthalmologist - ideally with an interest in Medical Retina/Uveitis for a fulltime, permanent position at Dunedin Eye Department. We are happy to hear from ophthalmologists with other subspecialty interests.
About the role
The Dunedin Eye Department provides ophthalmology services to all of Otago and Southland so we require a dynamic, hardworking individual with excellent time management skills to become an integral part of our close-knit team. Applicants should be enthusiastic about teaching and passing your knowledge to junior members of staff as the employer is affiliated with the Otago Medical School and Dunedin provides training to three Registrars from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
We are seeking an Ophthalmologist that knows the New Zealand health system intricately and the constraints we face within ophthalmology – so we welcome applications from a forward thinking, innovative ophthalmologist that loves challenges and working in a busy department. This role is primarily based in Dunedin but some travel across the Southern District is expected. You will be expected to participate in the on call roster, routine ophthalmology clinics, theatre and some outreach clinics. You will also need to be flexible with your scheduling. You must have completed your specialist training and be eligible or already hold vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.

- Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- FRANZCO or equivalent board certification (American board of Ophthalmology, FRCSC, FRCOphth)
- Excellent communication and time management skills
