Head Medical is looking for GPs to cover GP and Community Hospital OOH in Jan 2021 in the Scottish Outer Hebrides (including the Uist & Barra Community Hospital).
The OOH GP is not required to be resident in the Uist and Barra Hospital (16-bedded community hospital) but is on call for all NHS24 cases (triaging and face-to-face contacts either at the Primary Care Centre in the Hospital or as a home visit), for hospital in-patients requiring overnight medical management. Other duties include:
- Admitting patients who require inpatient care.
- Stabilising paediatric cases before transfer off-island
- Managing minor injuries that present at the Minor Injuries Clinic at the Hospital.
- Stabilising more severe cases requiring a transfer from the island.
Weekday night shifts are 14 hrs (18:00-08:00). Shifts also include Custody work but it is accepted that generally, this will be at the level of a capable GP rather than someone trained although experience would be helpful. GPs often cover the entire weekend as the On-Call doctor.
Over the weekends a second GP is on call from 10:00-18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays to provide additional capacity.
To save on travel NHS Western Isles suggest a week of on-call, starting on a Friday night, covering the whole weekend, and then Mon - Thu night, finishing on Friday morning.
To be considered for this role, you must be already on a Scottish Performers List.
