We are currently recruiting a Nuclear Medicine Specialist to join a friendly and supportive team, based in Hawke’s Bay – an area well known for its warm and sunny climate, fine wine and Art Deco Architecture.

The Role

This opportunity is for a qualified Nuclear Medicine Specialist to join the dynamic Radiology team and to contribute to the development of the Radiology department. For this particular position we are seeking Radiologist and/or Physician with dual scope of practice. Full time (dual scoped) is preferred, however flexible arrangements and part-time will be considered.

The department is currently expanding and you will be part of a cohesive, friendly team of 10 Radiologists in one of the more advanced departments in the country. The work of the department is varied and often challenging. The Consultants are by necessity multi skilled, but the development of a special interest is supported.

The team has a collegial approach and an active commitment to ongoing education. Multidisciplinary meetings are held daily, weekly or monthly with virtually all specialties being involved. There is no on call overnight as they move to teleradiology after 5pm.

The single site department is situated centrally within the hospital and has the following facilities

  • 128 Slice GE Discovery CT750 HD scanner
  • 1.5T GE Excite HDI MRI
  • GE Discovery NM/CT 670 - SPECT/CT with 16 slice CT scanner (back-up CT)
  • 4 ultrasound machines (including 3 x GE Logiq E9)
  • A GE Innova 3100 combo catheter and vascular laboratory with flat panel technology
  • Philips Omnidiagnost multipurpose fluoroscopy unit  
  • 3 General X-ray rooms including 2 dual-detector DR rooms (Carestream)
  • Fully integrated RIS/PACS and voice recognition (Carestream)

The Nuclear Medicine department provides a large cancer staging service which combines bone imaging with diagnostic CT’s on the hybrid camera, sentinel node imaging and MUGA scans. The other scans performed vary from myocardial perfusion imaging, thyroids, renograms, parathyroids as well as various other Technetium based SPECT CT products for the imaging of Brain, NET tumors and oncocytomas. They also run Iodine 131 therapy clinics on average twice a month.

Average monthly numbers for Nuclear Medicine would be 150 excluding the diagnostic CT’s on the hybrid scanner which average 65 per month.


The region is set on the beautiful and famous coastline of the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island.  A well-known holiday spot for Kiwis, you are also only 3.5 hours’ drive from New Zealand’s capital City Wellington, a 2 hours’ drive from the famous Lakes region, and a 3.5 hours’ drive from the North Island premier skiing destination, Mount Ruapehu. 

With over 2,245 hours of sunshine each year, and warm, dry summers this district is the country’s oldest winemaking region and is New Zealand’s leading producer of award winning red wines. To complement the sublime wines, it is further renowned as a gourmet destination for fresh seasonal food, exotic and organic meat, fruit and vegetables grown and processed in the bay. Country-style markets provide an opportunity for you to meet the growers and sample their wares.  It is also home to a world-class concentration of Art Deco architecture, fresh local produce and artisan food producers complemented by a vibrant arts scene and a rich Maori culture.
