The Role

At Lakes District Hospital you'll be part of a team of 9 FTE rural hospital doctors and medical officers. You will need to be a confident practitioner as your on-call backup may be up to 30 minutes away, though there is easy access to phone advice. An on call room is provided.

In this role you will work mainly in the Emergency Department, where we see around 10,000 new attendances per year, with a patient population that is young and international, the spectrum of disease seen here is hugely varied.

You should have sound ED skills and experience, and ideally also some exposure to ICU/anaesthetics. Any time spent in orthopaedics, general medicine and paediatrics will be beneficial. You will have previously worked as a solo medical practitioner, or be ready to do so. You must be registered with the New Zealand Medical council, or meet the requirements to become registered by commencement of employment.

The Hospital

Lakes District Hospital consists of 10 General Medical (Acute) beds, five Maternity beds, Emergency Department and a small out-patient department. It has onsite Radiology and access to Laboratory services and a CT scanner (at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde).

The Location

Queenstown sits on the shore of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu among dramatic alpine ranges.
