Locum Consultant Paediatric Oncologist required for leading children’s hospital Alder Hey.

Head Medical are excited to present this amazing opportunity for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Oncologist to work in one of the largest children’s hospitals in Europe for up to 12 months.

Alder Hey cares for over 275,000 children, young people and their families a year. Alder Hey treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions.

The successful applicant will provide Oncology/Malignant Haematology services to Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and join the team of Paediatric Oncologists covering the regional tertiary service. The job will be based on the purpose-built Oncology/Haematology unit at Alder Hey and has been created to provide Consultant level support to both the malignant haematology (leukaemia) and solid tumour services.

The Oncology/Haematology unit has a strong reputation of excellence of care based around a highly experienced and dedicated multi-disciplinary team working in first class facilities. The unit is a contributor to national and international clinical trials as well as having a thriving in-house research program.

It is of note that experience in laboratory-based haematology including microscopy and other aspects of laboratory work is not required, with these elements of service being provided by the existing Consultant Paediatric Haematologists.

To be successful in this role you must have the minimum of:

  • Full registration with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • MRCPCH or MRCP or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a recognised Paediatric training post.
  • Minimum of 18th months full time training in Paediatric Oncology.
  • Paediatric resuscitation and child protection training.

Although this role is full time at 12 PA’s we are open to discussing part time options and fully welcome international applicants who require a visa. This job is subject to a police check.
