Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the innovative and established Acute Medical Unit (AMU) team within Emergency Care as a Locum AMU Consultant. This is a one-year locum post in the first instance to provide sabbatical cover, with a possibility of extension/permanent thereafter.
This is an opportunity to join a team of 10 Acute Medical Consultants. The unit serves a population of 350,000 and is a teaching department within this hospital.

About the Trust:

The Acute Medical Unit is a purpose-built 54 bedded unit. It has a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) facility that is expanding pathways and services.

SDEC currently host 5 trolley spaces and 10+ chairs for the assessment of both expected patients and those patients on an ambulatory pathway.

Main duties:
- Lead on daily medical handovers and undertake Post Take Ward Rounds and review all non-speciality patients on AMU.
- Jointly lead the organisation and development of Acute Medicine in the division including arrangements for the associated junior medical staff.
- Work in close collaboration with the Emergency Department consultants to improve the management of medical emergencies, to achieve the 4-hour emergency access target and support the development of ambulatory pathways.
- Offer immediate support to junior medical staff involved in the management of emergency medicine
Essential criteria
- GMC Registered
- Current or recent participation in audit and clinical governance
- Experience of working in an Ambulatory Care unit
Desirable Criteria
- Management skills and evidence of management leadership training
- Awareness of changing structure of NHS
