We are recruiting for two positions of Neonatologist or General Paediatrician (with additional neonatal training). Each role consists of a full-time joint academic and clinical role based at the University of Otago, and Dunedin Hospital.

The Role

Academic component (0.5 FTE)

For your academic duties you will be based in the Paediatrics Section of the Department of Women's and Children's Health, Dunedin School of Medicine. You will be appointed to the position of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor dependent on the academic achievement, skills and experience you bring to the role.

The successful candidates will perform advanced and innovative research in an area of research specialisation, this could include clinical and fundamental research. They will demonstrate leadership in course design, preparation and delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also make an outstanding contribution to teaching within the Department of Women's and Children's Health.

Further responsibilities of community and university service include leadership in University planning and/or governance activities and contributing to the community initiatives.

Clinical Component (0.5 FTE)

The Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor, Paediatrics will also be funded by the Southern District Health Board to undertake clinical duties. The precise nature of these will be negotiated prior to appointment.

Dunedin Hospital has 388 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 300,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand.

Allocation of time for clinical duties and patient care is 50% of the working week. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) duties will be conducted as part of a shared roster with other colleagues in neonatal intensive care medicine. Participation in the after-hours on-call roster is expected as part of this role.

Other duties include team ward rounds, quality and safety activities, audit and clinical review meetings.
