We are seeking an Internal Medicine Physician for an exciting opportunity at The Broken Hill Health Service.

  • Lots of variety in terms of clinical presentation.
  • Rural nature of the role means greater autonomy and responsibility.
  • Opportunity to work in the Australian outback but just 40 min flight from Adelaide.
  • Daily flights to other major cities.
  • 11 Primary and Secondary schools plus a TAFE and Community College education for older students.
  • Nice climate with hot summers and mild winters.
  • Very affordable real estate with potential to live in town or have a hobby farm in the country.

General Medicine Specialists are preferred but other specialties will be considered. In the role, you will provide high quality medical services care to public and private patients from some of the most vulnerable communities in NSW. As an experienced professional, you will supervise junior medical staff and empower them to achieve our vision of excellence in rural and remote health. Working in a smaller, rural facility, you will have more autonomy and responsibility than you would get in larger hospitals. If you’re looking for a meaningful career change that comes with all the benefits of country living, then this is the job for you.

Broken Hill Health Service is a rural teaching hospital in NSW with 100 beds that services a wide area with a population of 25,000 people.  The hospital provides acute, non-acute and outpatient services, including dialysis and chemotherapy.  It has an emergency department, general medical, surgical, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatric, mental health and sub-acute beds.  Work is underway to enhance the level of ICU and CCU.  Support services include Pathology, Medical Imaging (CT scan), as well as a wide range of Allied and Primary Health services.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.

The Area
It is the largest regional centre in the western half of New South Wales, lying in the centre of the sparsely settled New South Wales outback, close to the South Australian border and midway between the Queensland and Victorian borders.

Real estate is very affordable so you can live in the city, or buy a plot with some land in the country.

Built on the world's largest silver, lead and zinc mine, Broken Hill remains the gateway to one of the most intoxicating parts of the country, the sun-seared majesty of the Outback.

While Broken Hill’s economy has historically been dominated by the mining industry, it is building on its widespread artistic credentials and is promoting itself as a tourism destination in order to become less reliant upon mining as a source of employment.

Make this your Outback base, and discover a friendly city with outstanding character, an amazing history and a taste for art, architecture and the finer things in life.

Broken Hill has been recognised as Australia’s first heritage listed city, having been listed on the National Heritage List alongside the Australian War Memorial, the Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef.

From the 30+ art galleries, museums, historic sites and pubs, to the annual events and regular activities in town, Broken Hill will offer you a unique, beautiful place to live.
