We are welcoming applications for an Intensive Care Specialist to join our dynamic team in our Critical Care Complex. We have a progressive attitude to intensive care medicine and development of the service, with a multi-disciplinary, non-hierarchical approach to our work. Additionally we value collegiality and work-life integration. Start date is negotiable.

Admission numbers are around 1400 per year to the Complex (ICU/HDU) with 85% of these as acute admissions. We are a supra-regional spinal injury service and care for severe burns as part of the National Burn Service taking patients from throughout New Zealand. Additionally, we admit around 150 paediatric patients each year and are involved in paediatric resuscitation in the Emergency Department.

The successful applicant will be at specialist level or have completed training in intensive care medicine. 

You will work on the Specialist roster with responsibility for admissions and discharges to the Critical Care as well as supervision of resident medical staff. You will also develop responsibility for some of our essential non-clinical portfolios. We will offer 25% non-clinical time, and mentoring as appropriate, to help you develop portfolio interests and skills that will benefit your career development. These could include Education, Research and Human Factors/ Safety and Quality. We will support you to attend conferences and meetings that further these interests and allow you to complete your CPD requirements.

It is essential that you are either already registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have an Annual Practicing Certificate prior to commencement.
