HEMS Recruitment: Pre-hospital Care Doctor (Anaesthetists wanted)
12-month contracts are available with the Essex & Hertfordshire Air Ambulance
Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) is a Charity, that works in partnership with the NHS to provide a free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for the critically ill and injured of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
Opportunities are available for experienced doctors (ST4+) with an appropriate post-graduate qualification. Knowledge of pre-hospital care systems and at least 5 years post graduate experience is essential; with 6 months in anaesthesia and 6 months in Emergency Medicine as a minimum.
This is an excellent opportunity for those doctors currently in training programmes who wish to take some time out and gain valuable emergency medicine experience; or doctors currently working within a hospital setting who are seeking a change. You will be capable of working independently whilst under pressure and must have very strong communication skills.
EHAAT is currently in a significant growth phase and moving into a 24/7 care model from 2019. This post provides operational pre-hospital experience in the case of major trauma and medical emergencies. Successful applicants will undertake specific training for the role including the Pre-Hospital Care Course (PHCC) at The Royal London Hospital and a sign-off period (normally 4-6 weeks)
Each working day will be different. You will spend daylight hours in the Air Ambulance, forming part of the duty flight crew and spend evening hours on the rapid response vehicle team. You will treat a variety of critically injured and ill patients working on a rotation rota most likely being 4 on, 4 off and seeing on average 3 jobs per shift.
