Gastroenterologist

Permanent

Fulltime

Our hospital client in Hawkes Bay has an immediate need for a specialist who is committed to develop their career and work in a very collegial work environment.

Through our values here, we are proud of our team’s diversity.  We believe in the strength of a diverse and inclusive workforce, to help us achieve the best outcomes for our patients and the communities in which we operate and serve.

The busy service provides over 3000 endoscopy procedures per year and approximately 2000  outpatient appointments.  The team currently comprises three Gastroenterologists, and a team of nurses lead by two registered nurses with extensive gastroenterology outpatient,  and endoscopy experience.   We have a very active and involved group of medical and surgical specialists here and a very collegial atmosphere exists.  Radiology facilities are excellent.

As our successful candidate, you will have proven skills and experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. On application, please include a summary of your endoscopy experience. An ability to perform ERCP would be desirable but not essential and experience in deploying oesophageal, duodenal and colonic stents is highly desirable as currently only one of the Gastroenterologists provides this expertise. If necessary training in these techniques will be arranged.

A shared role with Internal Medicine may be able to be considered but is certainly not mandatory.

The appointee will be involved in teaching, continuing medical education and quality improvement.  There is emphasis on ongoing development of services to meet the needs of our patients.  A commitment to customer focus, service development and teamwork are essential.

Hawke's Bay is a 400 bed accredited facility providing acute and elective care for the Hawke’s Bay region (a population of 160,000 people). The hospital is a modern facility with a full range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services, including MRI, and is one of the largest provincial hospitals in New Zealand. The Regional hospital in Hastings also has links to the DHB’s rural services in Wairoa and Waipukurau.

Ruakopito is our newly built start of the art facility, on the campus in Hastings that means all our patient based gastroenterology services are housed in one place providing 3 procedure rooms, patient recovery, resource and administration areas, clinic spaces and meeting rooms. Ruakopito enables the roll out of the national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

The successful applicant should have FRACP and be registered (or is eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

We have no doubt that you’ll love everything Hawke’s Bay has to offer. Situated on the east coast of the North Island, you’ll enjoy the stunning climate and beaches, a wide range of sporting and leisure opportunities, wine, food and cultural activities. An environment and work/life balance that is second to none. Take a stroll through the Hawke’s Bay Tourism website and get yourself to Hawke’s Bay!

If you are interested in this position, please apply online and attach an up to date copy of your CV for consideration.
