We’re seeking a Consultant Urologist to join 4 other Urologists based at Palmerston North Hospital, providing Urology Services to both the MidCentral and Whanganui District Health Board regions.

The Urology service is housed in modern facilities and provides a range of surgery using some of the latest technology, such as digital flexible ureterorenoscopy and holmium/yag laser for stone treatment and prostate surgery. It also provides extensive urological investigations on an outpatient basis including urodynamics, scoping and ultrasound guided prostate biopsies. There is an extensive Uro-Oncological activity in conjunction with the Regional Cancer Treatment Service.
The service currently has four urologists and two registrar positions, one of which is a training post.
Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital and teaching institution, which serves an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000.
What’s on offer, full time for 12 months:
- Total package circa NZ$180,000 - $300,000 per annum, including Base, On Call allowances, CME allowance etc.
- Includes base salary range NZ$158,141 - $230,000 per annum, depending on level of experience
- NZ$16,000 CME Allowance per annum + 10 days leave to attend conferences etc.

Palmerston North (population: urban 80,000, regional 168,000) has a genuine, easygoing vibe. It has all the facilities that you would expect of a city, yet is still compact and easy to navigate. Whether you decide to live in Palmerston North itself or Feilding, or any of the other little towns in the Manawatu region, the location in the middle of the North Island means you will be within easy driving distance of premier ski resorts at Turoa and Whakapapa to the north, the lush Hawke’s Bay wine region to the east, clean and quiet unspoilt beaches (Himatangi, Foxton, Otaki) along the West Coast, and of course, to the South is NZ’s capital city of Wellington (2 hour drive).
The local airport has daily commuter flights to Wellington and Auckland, making international flight connections very easy.

Requirement for this role
Ideally you will hold FRACS (Urol) and full Vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
Alternatively, if not NZ trained or based, you will hold equivalent specialist qualifications, e.g. FRCS (Urol) with CCT, or US Board certification in Urology, that will enable Provisional Vocational (long term) registration or Locum Tenens (short term up to 12 months) registration. These are the specialist pathways for medical registration in NZ and we can assist with the registration and work visa applications if you are successfully appointed.
