We're looking for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join a team of 8 other Consultant, providing high quality EM specialist services for a regional population of 160,000. 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 400 bed teaching hospital, modern spacious environment

  • Is recognised for advanced training in Emergency Medicine
  • Total package (circa NZD$190k-$300k), depending on experience

You will have broad experience and skills across Emergency Medicine along with a sound understanding of contemporary models of care; proven leadership skills and experience of working in a multidisciplinary team environment; an interest in medical education and teaching, including providing supervision and education to junior doctors, medical students and other clinical staff; and a commitment and willingness to be involved in continuous quality improvement programmes to improve emergency care and patient experience.

The team currently consists of 8 Consultants, 1 Medical Officer, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Registrars and 8 House Officers.  

The ED has a diverse patient mix, with a majority of patients being of high acuity and frequently have late presentations. The department receives 60-70 ISS > 15 trauma patients per year. They have active ED ultrasound and ready access to a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service, including CT, MRI, Angiography and Nuclear Medicine.

The region is set on the beautiful and famous coastline of the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. A well-known holiday spot for Kiwis, you are only a 3.5 hour drive from New Zealand’s capital city of Wellington, a 2 hour drive from the beautiful Lakes and geothermal region, and 3.5 hours from the North Island premier skiing destination, Mount Ruapehu.

The local airport provides connections to Auckland and international flight connections with daily flights (1 hr duration).

With over 2,245 hours of sunshine each year, and warm, dry summers this district is the country’s oldest winemaking region and is New Zealand’s leading producer of award winning red wines. To complement, it is further renowned as a gourmet destination for fresh seasonal food, exotic and organic meat, fruit and vegetables grown and processed in the Bay. Farmers markets provide an opportunity for you to meet the growers and sample their wares. It is also home to a world-class concentration of Art Deco architecture, fresh local produce and artisan food producers complemented by a vibrant arts scene and a rich Maori culture. The region also hosts a number of ‘must see’ events throughout the year (festivals, concerts etc).
