Emergency Specialist - Thames

Where you’ll be working: Coromandel Peninsula

The details: Permanent/Fixed Term positions available – Full time hours

Come and join us in Thames, gateway to the beautiful Coromandel peninsula!

About the service:

The Hospital is based in the Waikato region, and is set against the hills on the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand’s North Island. We are a fully modernised rural and secondary hospital service, providing healthcare for a catchment population of 45,000. This population swells significantly over the summer holidays as the wider country makes their way to their favourite vacation destinations across the Coromandel.

We pride ourselves on the provision of quality and patient focussed care and work in a true inter-disciplinary way with nursing and allied health team members. The hospital has a feel of everyone pulling together to ensure the patients are cared for in the very best way possible across the care continuum.

About the role:

Our hospital provides a 15 bed emergency department seeing 18,000 patients per year which is supported by 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT. The emergency department is staffed by an eclectic team of doctors – rural specialists, emergency medical officers and emergency specialists. We assess all patients presenting acutely to the hospital and treat or admit as required.

Applications are invited from Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or Fellows of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine, or overseas equivalent. Medical officers with appropriate experience in emergency medicine will also be considered. You must be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Why us:

The employer is one of the largest in New Zealand. We plan, fund and provide health and disability support services to a population of more than 400,000. We run five hospitals across the district – a tertiary hospital in Hamilton, a secondary hospital in Thames, and three rural hospitals in Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, and Tokoroa.

We are a values based and inclusive organisation that is committed to deliver the best health outcomes for our total population. To do this we are working hard to develop a robust and capable workforce that reflects the population we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds with the necessary capability and who share our values to apply and would greatly value seeing more applicants from our Māori communities.

Why Thames:

The Thames-Coromandel region boasts some of the country’s most spectacular surf and swimming beaches and is a haven for mountain bikers, divers, fishers, hikers and outdoors enthusiasts. Thames is less than two hours’ drive to the major centres of Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and their major airports.

For appointed candidates we offer a competitive relocation allowance and assistance.

If you are interested in this position, please apply online and attach a copy of your most up to date CV for consideration so we can assess the level of assistance we can provide.
