The Role and Hospital

With 18 direct reports and a budget of AUD$2,500 000, this is a rare opportunity to take a senior role in a modern hospital where your ability to manage, lead and inspire people will be at least as important as your O&G Clinical ability.  You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, allied to a strong commitment to quality improvement, education and research.

Your Department will be responsible for the provision of patient care, including antenatal clinic, gynaecology and colposcopy clinics, gynaecological surgery and caesarean sections, inpatient care and a consultation service.  The O&G department has a current medical establishment of 1 Clinical Director, 5 Staff Specialists/Senior Medical Officer, 8 registrar/Principal House Officers and 5 junior medical officers.

The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, of which Toowoomba Hospital is the major hospital with over 320 beds, provides a comprehensive range of high-quality acute, sub-acute, mental health, drug and alcohol, oral health, residential aged care, and community health services. They deliver clinical services to a regional population of approximately 300,000, which continues to grow. Spanning 90,000 square kilometres, the catchment area includes both large and small rural community settings and the Hospital is the major regional centre providing a comprehensive range of specialist consultative services to all these surrounding districts.

There are circa 2000 deliveries per annum, six operating theatres, high dependency and intensive care units.  In addition, there is a strong commitment to medical education and continuing professional development, and the Hospital and Health Service has a major teaching role, with active clinical training programmes in place at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

The Location

Nicknamed the “Garden City”, Toowoomba (population 125,000) is a picturesque modern city located on the rim of the Great Dividing Range. The region enjoys a temperate mountain climate of four distinct seasons, including glorious summers and cool winters.

Toowoomba is the largest inland settlement in Queensland, and the economic centre of the Darling Downs region. It is a modern city, known for its beautiful parks and gardens, good shopping, cultural and sporting facilities, as well as excellent public and private schools, and universities (Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE, University of Queensland and Southern Queensland University). While it provides all the benefits of a major city being strategically situated close to Brisbane (90 minute drive) and the Gold Coast (2 hour drive), it also offers a relaxed lifestyle and pace of life.

We’re the UK's specialist in international medical recruitment and we‘ve helped many Doctors relocate since we first started out in 2008 (you can read what people have said about working with us on our testimonials page). We know it’s important to balance career opportunities with lifestyle and we’ll talk through your plans and will get to know you to make sure we find the right role in the right location.
