The opportunity

You will be a Liver/Peritonectomy surgeon (ideally with subspecialty training in liver and peritoneal cancer surgery) who will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the peritoneal/liver/oncological cancers. The Surgeon needs to be able to operate independently in both peritonectomy and liver surgery, manage the preoperative and postoperative care of the patients, provide expert clinical advice and leadership to the Expanded Multidisciplinary Team and independently manage the unit when required.

St George Hospital is a 627-bed major teaching hospital of the University of NSW and is a tertiary referral centre. It is the Level 1 Trauma Centre for SESLHD and is among the leading centres for trauma and emergency management in the State. The hospital’s close proximity to Sydney airport makes it a vital service providing first response to the airport precinct.

The $277 million redevelopment of St George Hospital includes a new seven-storey Acute Services Building built above the new Emergency Department.

The Acute Services Building includes Intensive Care, High Dependency, Cardiac Intensive Care, extra operating theatres as well as extra acute inpatient beds

The Location

St George Hospital is located in the suburb of Kogarah, 14 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD.  The area is well serviced by buses, trains and major roads and is known for its sporting history, picturesque parks, foreshore and its relaxed, family-oriented lifestyle.

Kogarah offers a variety of recreational activities and events for people of all ages and is well known for its cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants, as well as its food and cultural markets which showcase the distinct flavours and traditions of Kogarah’s multicultural community.  The area has a diverse spectrum of commercial, residential, light industrial and natural landscapes.

It is a growing area for tourism, particularly along Lady Robinsons Beach at Brighton Le Sands, which is home to a myriad of restaurants and cafes that reflect the area's cosmopolitan mix of cultures.  The beaches at Brighton Le Sands, Monterey and Ramsgate are clean and safe, and the area boasts a range of aquatic facilities along Botany Bay, the Georges River and Cooks River – all ideal spots for sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, and fishing.
