We are currently recruiting for a Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, to join the largest mental health service in New Zealand.
The service is in an exciting phase of development with new facilities such as a purpose built inpatient unit and a community alternative to hospital facility as well as planning innovative models of community care. There are opportunities to be involved in service development, service planning, and quality improvement initiatives. Teaching and supervision of junior doctors/students, involvement in clinical leaderships and leading multidisciplinary team are core functions for consultants.
The Health Board serves a district population of around 560,000, and a larger, regional population for some specialist mental health services. There is a comprehensive infant, child, adolescent and family community service, including the specialist services Early Psychosis Intervention, Intensive Clinical Support Service and Maternal Mental Health, employing approximately 120 staff including 10 Psychiatrists and 4 Registrars, with a friendly and collegiate culture.
It’s also not just about where you work – but also about where you live. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and regularly polls as one of the best international cities for quality of life. as well as a vibrant arts scene and excellent restaurants there’s the beautiful harbour, many beaches and within easy reach of the centre, some rural idylls for those who prefer country living with easy access to the city. Auckland enjoys warm, rather dry summers and a greater year round warmth than NZ’s other largest cities.
New Zealand is becoming more and more a location of choice for those who previously considered Australia as the most desirable location down under. Its rapid growth compared to other developed countries has recently been referred to as a “rock star economy” and it was voted the best place in world to raise a family by the 2014 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey, with the report describing it as “an ideal destination to raise active, outdoorsy and healthy children.”
Consultants are well-remunerated and enjoy good working conditions and an excellent work life balance in New Zealand.
There’s never been a better time to look more closely at what NZ has to offer:
- No geographical restrictions – opportunities in major cities, towns, coastal, and rural locations
- Great transport links, most locations fly to International Airports making flight connections to/from NZ easy
- Excellent educational system, with private and public schools as well as a number of tertiary institutions
- Strong real estate market and affordable housing to suit your style – apartment, townhouse, or lifestyle block
