Commence in mid 2018 and be based in one of the sunniest places in NZ - miss the winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
We are seeking a Psychiatrist coving both inpatient care and community working for a 110-bed modern and spacious District General Hospital in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Whakatane offers a semi-rural and relaxed coastal lifestyle. And with the Bay of Plenty now being one of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand, many Kiwis are moving down from Auckland, and many overseas migrants are choosing the region as their destination of choice, too.
Its not surprising, it has some of the best beaches in NZ, places such as Ohope, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Ohiwa - ideal for those who love the great outdoors.
- Permanent position, commencing late 2017
- Total package circa NZ$180,000 - $280,000 per annum (Base salary range NZ$152,000 - $216,500 per annum)
- Generous relocation assistance
- Strong real estate market and affordable housing to suit your style – apartment, townhouse, or lifestyle block
- Beautiful natural surroundings & marine life – safe boating harbour, white sandy beaches, dolphins, whales & orcas
In this role you will be working with a community mental health and addictions multidisciplinary clinical team, the acute inpatient unit at Whakatane Hospital and NGO and primary care providers. You will work with Whakatane and Tauranga clinicians in a number of cross-district service relationships that include general adult, consultation liaison, child and adolescent, addiction and mental health services for older people (regional population 230,000).
We are looking for a Psychiatrist who has a passion for service development and an interest in education, teaching and research, and who will settle into the local community and provide a vital and valuable specialist service. There is an opportunity to work with Auckland University medical school students and Psychiatry Registrars.

It’s a very nice way of life if you prefer not to be in a city, but still be in close proximity, and to be close to the ocean. The community is welcoming and the living is most definitely relaxed.
