The location of this job is in Alice Springs in Australia's amazing Northern Territory. 

The Central Arrernte people are the traditional owners of the land here. In representing Alice Springs and this region, we pay respect to the traditional custodians, ancestors and continuing cultural, spiritual and religious practices of the Arrernte.

Alice Springs is a major regional centre. The hospital has 160 beds servicing an area of approx. 1,000,000 km2. It is associated with Flinders and Sydney University.  The hospital has a brand new ICU, Emergency Department, AU14m teaching auditorium, medical library and AU45m renal research centre. The population served is 50,000 of whom 38% are Indigenous Australians.

The town is dynamic and progressive. It is a friendly and relaxed community - a great place to live. Alice Springs is a major Australian tourist destination for visitors. This mean transport links and town facilities are excellent with daily flights to major metropolitan cities. You will provide first class inpatient, outpatient and outreach medical services in Internal Medicine.

Your scope of work will include leadership, management of the day to day activities of the Department of Medicine and quality management. You will lead performance reviews and professional development programs. Further, you will participate in teaching within undergraduate and postgraduate contexts. You will do all this whilst ‘leading from the front’, fostering a positive work environment.

You will have completed your specialist training and either hold FRACP or equivalent from a comparable training program from the UK, Ireland, NZ, South Africa, Canada or the USA.  Alternatively, you will have had significant experience as a consultant in one of these countries if you completed your training elsewhere.

You will have training in a sub-specialty area of Internal Medicine such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes or respiratory disease, infectious diseases or gastro (with competency in endoscopy).

You will have at least 4 years experience as a Consultant. You will be more then capable of working  within a cross-cultural environment. Your communication skills, empathy and ability to treat all people with respect and dignity must be first class.
