Consultant Paediatrician - Scottish Islands
A fantastic opportunity is available for an experienced General Paediatrician to work in a beautiful rural location in Scotland. Based in the Outer Hebrides you will be the sole Consultant Paediatrician in this region, but fully supported by a 'Childrens' On Call Doctors' team of GPs and Nurse Practitioners. You will provide a comprehensive hospital and community based service in conjunction with your colleagues to the children of the Western Isles. You will receive the standard annual and study leave, plus an additional 12 weeks Professional Leave - which can be taken as an attachment at a mainland tertiary hospital.
You will be experienced in dealing with both paediatric cases and neonates, and hold MRCPCH (or equivalent) and have GMC Specialist Registration in the UK. EPLS and NLS qualifications are also required, and previous time spent working in a remote region would be highly desirable. Evidence of active interest in research is required and a keen desire to teach is very welcomed, you will be involved in teaching the local GPs and midwives who make up the Childrens' On Call Doctors team, and provide the out of hours care while you are off duty. Naturally very strong communication skills are important and a proactive approach to your work is needed. All special interests will be considered and supported by mainland attachments (Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow) during the year.
The hospital is located in a beautiful region, with a local airport and ferry terminal making travel to/from the island very straightforward. It is an excellent and safe place to raise a family, with a low cost of living and great schools.
