Consultant Paediatrician – Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland

An excellent opportunity is available for a Consultant in Community Paediatrics to join NHS Dumfries & Galloway and work from their fantastic district general hospital located in the south of Scotland. We are delighted to have been selected to recruit for NHS Dumfries and Galloway and have been hugely impressed when meeting the Paediatric Department.

If you would like to join a hospital where you will be part of a very well supported department, with access to senior members and regular departmental meetings to ensure all runs smoothly, then this will be the place for you. Relevant experience in Community Paediatrics is essential. You will work in general community paediatrics, involving secondary level assessment and ongoing care of children with a range of developmental disorders and disabilities: including those children in need and at risk. You will be flexible to work in all aspects of Community Paediatrics including Neurodevelopment, Neurodisability, Social communication disorders, managing children with exceptional needs, special school clinics, safe guarding and Looked after children etc. 

There is new Neurodevelopment set up starting soon. Neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnostic service team dedicated to providing a comprehensive assessment and diagnostic service to children up to the age of 18 with possible difficulties which includes Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum, Intellectual Disability and Tic Disorders. The post holder is expected to contribute and working along with a dedicated CAMHS Consultant, dedicated Speech and Language Therapy and a full time Clinical Psychologist. Child Protection duties are carried by all the consultants in the Department and you are expected to contribute to this duty which will be discussed at the time of job planning.

You will have experience working at Consultant level, preferably in the UK or Ireland, however international candidates will also be considered. GMC Specialist Registration, or eligibility within 6 months, is essential for this post.

You will be located in a truly beautiful rural location. A lovely place for families and those with a keen interest in outdoor pursuits. At the same time, you are within easy reach of the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, or travelling south across the border to Carlisle in the north of England. There is a low crime rate, excellent schools and affordable housing.
