Consultant Paediatric Haematologist - Alder Hey Children's Hospital

We are excited to announce Head Medical are working in partnership with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to recruit a substantive 10 PA Consultant Paediatric Haematologist.

This is a new and exciting opportunity to work within a leading tertiary referral Haematology and Oncology department which offers full regional clinical care and laboratory diagnostics for leukaemia, regional haemophilia comprehensive care and a regional haemoglobinopathy service.

The Haematology-Oncology department is within an award-winning purpose-built ‘Hospital in the Park’ which consists of an outpatient clinic, a 6 bedded Day Case Unit, a 16 bedded inpatient ward including 2 HEPA filtered isolation cubicles and a Teenage Cancer Trust unit with two-day case and 4 inpatient beds. All departments within Pathology are accredited with CPA (UK).

Alder Hey Children’s hospital is an international centre of excellence, treating 275,000 children a year and is a major teaching hospital of the University of Liverpool serving not only the local population of children but is the tertiary referral centre for children in Merseyside, Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, Shropshire and North Wales. It is also a centre for the UK Neonatal Haemoglobinopathy Screening service.

The successful candidate will join a unit that is a recognised Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre with early phase studies supported by a dedicated NIHR Clinical Research Facility for children. The job offers excellent research support and facilities within the on-site University of Liverpool Institute of Child Health. If successful you will be expected to take on a full role in the leukaemia and non-malignant haematology clinical and laboratory service and will be encouraged to develop your own specialist area of interest.

With a population of nearly half-a-million, Liverpool is in England’s North West and is well connected with excellent transport links to London, Lake District and Snowdonia National Park in Wales. With its historic waterfront with the world famous ‘Three Graces’ forming part of the Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasting the largest collection of museums and galleries anywhere outside of the capital there is plenty of beauty in Liverpool to see.

To apply for this role, you must:

  • Hold or be eligible for GMC Specialist Registrations (those within 6 months of CCT at time of interview are also invited to apply).
  • Have a minimum of 5 years in recognised training post for Haematology and minimum 12 months full time training in Paediatric Haematology.
  • Experience of Paediatric Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation.
  • MRCPCH or MRCP or equivalent.
  • FRCPath (Haematology) or equivalent.

Although this role is full time, we are open to discussing part time options and welcome international applicants. Salary will follow NHS pay scales from £78,521 up to £105,042 per year dependent on experience.
