The Role

The Department of Neurology provides both secondary and tertiary level inpatient, day-patient, outpatient and neurophysiology services to both local and regional populations with close links to the regional Neurosurgery Unit based at Waikato Hospital.

This is a challenging role which demands outstanding professional and leadership skills, commitment to the specialty and a vision of providing a team-based service founded on excellence in all aspects of the business.

The Location

Spanning almost 8% of New Zealand’s geographical area, this District Health Board delivers a comprehensive range of primary, secondary and tertiary health services to a regional population of more than 860,000.

This bustling University City offers urban sophisticates, outdoor enthusiasts, and families of all ages, a really balanced lifestyle. Situated on the banks of New Zealand’s longest river, it is New Zealand’s 4th largest city, and it’s rich cultural mix and vibrant centre makes it a perfect place to experience the friendly Kiwi lifestyle.

New Zealanders are passionate about their sport, and this City is no different, playing host to many sporting events: test matches and one day cricket internationals, the World Rowing Championships, the V8 Supercars, World Rally Car Racing and, of course, rugby (league and union).

Other major cultural events reveal the rich diversity on offer to new migrants: the National Agricultural Fieldays (the southern hemisphere's biggest agricultural trade exhibition), the annual international film festival, each year there’s a classical concert series featuring world class musicians organised by the University’s Conservatorium of Music. There is a sophisticated, vibrant café and restaurant scene, as well as fantastic shopping, galleries and expansive public gardens, where art exhibitions and outdoor theatrical productions are often held.

Small surrounding towns feature top antiques, homewares and gift stores in charming rural settings. There are bustling weekend markets, featuring local produce and opportunities to sample the wares from boutique-style vineyards and orchards. Farming, Agriculture and agricultural research play a pivotal role in the region’s economy, which features some of the largest horse studs and dairy farms in the country.

Due to the region’s considerable size spanning both the east coast and west coast of the North Island, you can enjoy some of New Zealand’s best surfing beaches, experience sailing 9 months of the year on the Lake, as well as spend your winter months enjoying the nearby premier seasonal ski fields.

As one of New Zealand’s fastest growing areas, one of the keys to this growth is its central location and easy access to other parts of the country. Having its own international airport makes it easy to catch connecting international flights to Australia, the UK and beyond. Auckland City is only a 90 minute drive away and both the West Coast and East Coast beaches are within easy reach, meaning endless recreational possibilities…

So, if you've been thinking about making a change, this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a balanced lifestyle and to help shape an excellent and vital service.
