Hospital and service
The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, of which Toowoomba Hospital is the major hospital with over 320 beds, provides a comprehensive range of high-quality acute, sub-acute, mental health, drug and alcohol, oral health, residential aged care, and community health services. They deliver clinical services to a regional population of approx 300,000, which continues to grow. Spanning 90,000 square kilometres, the catchment area includes both large and small rural community settings and the Hospital is the major regional centre providing a comprehensive range of specialist consultative services to all these surrounding districts.
There is a strong commitment to medical education and continuing professional development, and the Hospital and Health Service has a major teaching role, with active clinical training programmes in place at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Nicknamed the “Garden City”, Toowoomba (population 125,000) is a picturesque modern city located on the rim of the Great Dividing Range. The region enjoys a temperate mountain climate of four distinct seasons, including glorious summers, without oppressive conditions, and cool winters.
Toowoomba is the largest inland settlement in Queensland, and the economic centre of the Darling Downs region. It is a modern city, known for its beautiful parks and gardens, good shopping, cultural and sporting facilities, as well as excellent public and private schools, and universities (Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE, University of Queensland and Southern Queensland University). While it provides all the benefits of a major city being strategically situated close to Brisbane (90 minute drive) and the Gold Coast (2 hour drive), it also offers a relaxed country lifestyle and pace of life that harks back to its colonial settlement roots.
Imagine sampling some great local produce over coffee in one of the many stylish cafes, exploring the beautiful parks and stunning surrounding landscape with the kids, and breathing in the clean fresh air…
What Head Medical can do for you
Arranging a position overseas is very exciting, but we understand that it can also be daunting and time consuming. We’re the UK's specialist in international medical recruitment and we‘ve helped many Doctors relocate since we first started out in 2008 (you can read what people have said about working with us on our testimonials page). We know it’s important to balance career opportunities with lifestyle and we’ll talk through your plans and will get to know you to make sure we find the right role in the right location.
Once we have secured a job for you, we’ll manage the Medical Registration and Visa application process, and support you (and your family) with the relocation itself.
